We thank you for being able to come together today to share in our efforts to respond to the many needs of the poor. We ask you to be present and help us to discern how best to respond to the challenge of human trafficking.
In a special way, we ask for blessings on all of those who have lost a beloved relative or friend to the terrible scourge of trafficking and to feel their anguish of never seeing their loved one again. This evil, at times, seems so overpowering that we find ourselves frail in our efforts to confront it. Be our strength and help us to remember that you are present in each and everyone. Help us to be open, “Ephata,” to break through the fences that surround us and enslave the poor. Help us to have many encounters that will bring about freedom in every sense of the word for our brothers and sisters, the poor.
This we ask, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
